In a first in Southern Railway, the Salem railway division has introduced 100% e-tendering for all the work and revenue related contracts. The move is expected to bring in more transparency in the award of contracts, by curbing corrupt practices.
Talking to TOI, U Subba Rao, divisional railway manager (DRM), said the e-tendering process would usher in more transparency, while doing away with much of the paper work and thereby making the entire process easier. “This will also increase the outreach,” he said and added that bidders could pay online the cost of tender form and earnest money deposit for participation of tenders.
“There is no need for them to visit any office and this will make their participation more convenient. But the bidders have to get themselves registered through the IREPS website for submitting the tender and obtain digital signature certificate. They can start bidding 15days before the closure of the tender and could modify the tender at any number of times before its closure. After opening the tender, the bidders could see the quote of all the others and the system would automatically generate the inter-se-ranking,” he said.
